Michael Landau and Robben Ford--Renegade Creation [2010]

Here is a brand new [to be released] from JK. enjoy. Get it quick, I think it'll be deleted soon..

Renegade Creation is the new record by veteran musical giants, Michael Landau, Robben Ford, Jimmy Haslip and Gary Novak. Blending together to create a blues-driven sound that not only will satisfy their individual fans but is fresh enough to attract a legion of new fans as well. Delivering bothrootsy, blues/rock vocal tunes and fiery instrumentals, the band draws on the unique guitar interplay between guitar giants Robben Ford and Michael Landau who inspire each other to new personal bests.

I did something different this time while reviewing this electrifying new CD from Michael Landau, Robben Ford, Jimmy Haslip and Gary Novak. I went over to my friendz house for a hard workout and we blasted this CD "Renegade Creation" into blues rock oblivion!!! I just remember not even thinking about the pain I was enduring on the treadmil. However, while listen to this I felt "untouchable" Really, the music on this magnificent album just propels you forward with its energy and vibe. Oh yeah... Real music with real musicians. There's no sugar coated cornflakes here. This is the real deal. The live sounding production and the loosely written songs give you the feeling that you are right there in the studio with these veteran cats. There are some really kool segues where it feels like a true jam session. The guitar interplay, character and vibe between Michael Landau and Robben Ford are unique and unparalleled. It's a great thing when 2 guitar heavy weights can get into the ring together without trying to out do one other on every song They share a common goal And that's to play for the song. When I say loosely written, I mean that most of the songs are open to some interpretation between the musicians giving the songs breathing room. The fellas will probably never play the song the same way twice in concert type of thing

If you groove to bands like Clapton, Little Feat, Steely Dan, Toto, Steve Lukather, Derek Trucks, Larry Carlton, and if you like instrumental interplay between awesome guitar players, fine musicians, and the like, then you are going to really love this little musical jewel. There is not one bad song on the CD As well, the music and songs are ever changing while leaving you with much anticipation for the next tune to play. On the other hand, there are a couple of more sharply produced songs here on the CD for definite radio participation too. Of course, this is for more mass appeal and I have to respect that. It's just smart music marketing on their part. All the songs are very well crafted and also have tons (and tones) of attitude and flavor. The guitars and percussions are second to none and the musical ideas flow like sweet sparkling spring water shooting out of a crag in the rock.

Are you ready to take a musical journey that will leave you refreshed and with a bounce in your step? Then please go out and get your copy of "Renegade Creation" and you too can help set your own pain and mind free

Note: This is not an instrumental CD ..Review by Scott Thomas

Hiroki Miyano--Nijinsky's Reflection In The Mirror [2002] (H.T.F.)

Hiroki Miyano is a prominent, respected jazz guitarist from Japan who has recorded 16 albums spanning over 20 years in his music career. He is also active as a composer and arranger for other artistsâ albums, and for film & TV projects. Notably, Miyano has been the recipient of several music awards for his work. Swing Journal magazine honored him with their Best Sound Recording award. Another magazine presented Miyano with their Best Improvisation award.

Miyano was discovered by legendary producer Teo Macero, who is best known for his production of acclaimed albums by Miles Davis (Quiet Nights and Bitches Brew), and Dave Brubeck (Time Out).

Miyano has toured as a sideman with The Boom, a popular band in Japan, and its leader Kazufumi Miyazawa co-wrote and sang on the song, âThe Light Of Affection.â Miyazawa is best known for the International hit song âShimauta,â the biggest hit single by The Boom which he composed. The Okinawa-influenced song subsequently became a big hit in Asia, South America and parts of Europe.

Nite Flyte--U-Turn [2003]

After a long hiatus the group is back with their new album "U-Turn", which will be released in July 2003 . Tony Campbell has assembled professional musicians as Simply Red guitarist Mark Jaimes, legendary Philly soul diva Jean Carne, vocalists Chris McDonald, Bernadette Powell and Jill Francis, saxophonist Tom Richards, keyboardist Duncan Millar and drummer Chad Moody.

How is the moment, when you are Feeling Good. Hard to describe in words, musicians have it better. An easy played guitar on Hip-Hop-grooves, a muted trumpet and a lot of uplifting mood, that's a flavored beginning.

Where Will She Go features the female singer Bernadette Powell. A huge undiscovered talent with a blessed voice. A first vocal glimpse, hopefully more in the future.

The term Far From Home mediates loneliness. Tom Richards' sax paints these depressed spirits in warm tones.

Retro music is very fashionable nowadays. Jean Carne's soulful interpretation of If You Believe combined with 70's beats makes no difference.

So Much is the next title. So much what? So much saxophone for example? Foremost a Smooth Jazz piece.

Deja Vu is a kind of memory deception at which the impression arises that you have already seen something in the same way before. This time it's a song of Bernadette Powell on the paths of Sade.

Chris McDonald and Jill Francis are singing Come Back in a vibrating spirit-stirring duet.

Miles Above is a slow flowing contemplative piece. No crying for attention.

I don't have to tell you anything about Breezin'. It's the classic Smooth Jazz tune in general. All of you will know George Benson's version. He became a pop superstar with this album. Nevertheless the potential of the melody makes this tune irresistible especially by Tom Richards' engagement on sax.

Chris McDonald shows more of his interesting voice on Sunshine.

The title-track U-Turn is featuring Duncan Millar. Duncan is an excellent musician who proved his talent in his solo albums "Dream Your Dream" and "Good To Go". A short interview with Duncan and a review about his album "Comin' Thru" are only a small deference to this great artist.

Parr Street profits by the vivid drum playing of Chad Moody, who gives this tune a propelling twist. I often observed this effect on gigs.

The album is completed by a remix version of If You Believe. The disco-beat is replaced by a more agreeable rhythm.

With this album NiteFlyte are walking on a safe path. Recommendable for all friends of Smooth Jazz.

Yasunori Mitsuda--KiRite [2005]

Here's something from "sergey" very interesting.Appreciated..

Yasunori Mitsuda is no stranger to celtic influenced music with eastern undertones so with KiRite, an album of music to accompany a 52 page story by Masato Kato (which is provided but is in Japanese so sadly it’s lost on me), Mitsuda once again delves into what he does and knows best.

“Is Kirite Burning Up?” opens the album with an acoustic guitar gently playing to the vocal delights of Eri Kawai. After the beautiful introduction we are treated to a militarian paced celtic charge lead by an electric guitar and echoing vocals. It all reminds me of how I pictured the Chrono Trigger Arranged CD should have been had it not tried to straddle ten genres all at once. An excellent opener and all the instruments are live. “The Market in Volfinor” passes celtic by at the start for a more middle-eastern feel to open with – very Turkish. A whistling intro gives way to beautiful percussive bells and more acoustic guitar chords. Once the drums and violin break
out however it reminds me very tradionally of a typical village theme to a game. However instead of using loops, because the instrumentation is live – the songs can move and flow freely like water and not just do two repetitions and end. This song never sits still and is an amazing piece of composing.

“Promise with Winds ~ Petals’ Whereabouts” sounds like a downtempo rock ballad. Eri Kawai’s vocals shine on this track as she sings with little reverb to distort her unlike the first track. It’s a difficult song to pull off because of the various chord changes in the chorus but the end result is a very pleasing one.

“The Forest of Lapis Lazuli” uses one of my favourite instruments, a hammered dulcimer to lay the background tune out with a guitar while the violins and tin whistles carfully soar the main tune out for everyone. This song could have came straight from Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles for its use of more ancient instruments. Similarly it also reminds of the style Mitsuda adopted for “Haka No Niwa”. “The Azure” is another vocal song but this time is a celtic influenced uptempo folk piece. The chorus is particularly catchy. “Scorning Blade” however for the first time takes a darker route in music. Using various ambient percussion and very low tone and low key monk style hummings for the first half before suddenly transforming into a solomn piano piece which aches the heart. A song of two halves and quite unusual at that.

“Upon the Melodies of the Moon” is an accepela version of the main theme heard in several songs which is beautifully presented. “Fated Encounter ~ The Fall of Darkness” now reminds me of the Shadow Hearts Arranged Tracks album (although Kirite came out first) because of the way how the guitar pounds out riff after riff with vocal moanings and piercing bagpipes all competiting for your attention. Previously it reminds me completely of a band called “Secret Garden” and it still does to this day. Another excellent piece again.

“Nocturne” is a beautiful piano and violin piece which gives warmth before “As Autumn Passes Away” ups the pace with an uptempo number with a slightly mysterious but compelling twist to it. “The Snow Howling” is a strange piece – the main violin is very much in the foreground of the speakers but everything seems to be very much distanced and almost in slow motion. Once the drums join the violin it makes more sense as you are giving the effect of a tough stamina reducing journey.”Prayer Tree” is a piano and acoustic guitar led piece with various other instruments making up the percussive line which is nice before “The Name of Our Hope” gives us our final vocal song. Choosing another upbeat song (I assume the
story has a happy ending!) Eri Kowai once again shows her strong vocal talent to what is a full band version of the piano piece from “Scorning Blade” it sounds completely different but you can still hear the link which is great. “Circle of Infinity” is a short piano reprise of the previous track to end a stunning album.

This whole soundtrack is classic Mitsuda. There is not one poor track on this collection and it has quickly become one of my favourite soundtracks. I liken it in style and music composition to “Legaia: Duel Saga” in the way how the songs are written and the instruments used. If you enjoyed that soundtrack – think of an arrangement of that with real instruments and your some way to describing “Kirite”. A superb classic – and a must buy for all music fans.

The first edition of this album includes the piano score to "Circle of Eternity", along with a message from Yasunori Mitsuda.

Despite the catalog number, this album contains only one disc. SBPS-0008 is the catalog number for the album, while SBPS-0009 is the catalog number for the book.

On the album "Kirite" is actually written with the (upper case) letter "R" and (lower case) letter "e" mirrored.

Blak's Lair Family Present--Jazzinvasiatics

This post is part of a few websites interacting to bring about a greater range of music. This is from Blak's it this their link and all info.
Check it out!!!!!!!!!!

The Blak's Lair Family is back and in a MAJOR way! Last year's April Fool's joke was huge, but this year they're fooled EVERYONE by dropping their very first BOX SET!!!

Jazzinvasiatics is a monolithic assemblage consisting of eight CDs with a total of 120 songs from artists such as Monday Michiru, Flat Three, Hiromi Uehara, Kuh Ledesma, Jill-Decoy Association, Dimension, TKY, Big Mama, Quasimode, DJ Kawasaki, Uni-Birth, Grooveline, Parkdrive, Sleepwalker and (of course) the homies Jazzin' Park! This box set contains over 10 hours of various jazz stylings - from contemporary jazz to jazz fusion to acoustic jazz to acid jazz and nu jazz with a little jazzy hip-hop and R&B to spice this set up and even the listeners out at the same time. There are even a few songs on here that feature sounds of Brazilian samba and bossa nova! JOY!

If you sit back and REALLY listen to the songs on here, you can probably imagine yourself in one moment sitting in a packed house vibin' to some kick-ass jazz fusion, and the next moment you're at a house party jamming to the uptempo numbers, and the next you're on a beach relaxing to the acoustic guitars while watching the sunset, and later on you're chillin' out in a quiet, smoky underground jazz venue.

Still wonder why The Blak's Lair Family practically lives in Japan? Did you even know that they do the damn jazz thing in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea and the Philippines? Did you even CARE?! Well if you didn't you're GONNA care! It doesn't get much better than this right here, folks! This box set showcases some of the rawest talent from some of the dopest musicians from the East and it is straight BANANAS! Consider this box set as your 'survival kit' of REAL music as we continue our relentless attack on the corporate machine that perpetually manufacture no-talent-havin' artists and lackluster computerized and over-digitized production.
