Jun Miyake-Innocent Bossa In The Mirror [2002]

This will go along with the ones that MR.D, contributed. Enjoy

It is without a doubt my love of making "mixed breed" music that has brought me to where I am today. The idea of taking different concepts, genres ideas and combining them in ways that are unexpected in hopes of creating a new sound that is all at once vaguely familiar yet entirely new is what interests and inspires me most as an artist. Withmy last two records I investigated the concepts of "exotic" and "erotic". This time around the notion of "innocence" seemed somehow the appropriate direction to take ; and it wasn't hard for me to decided on the genre through which I wanted to explore this : Bossa Nova. Being a Japanese artist who can't speak Portuguese, can't sing, can't play guitar and has not made it apoint to specialize in Brazilian music, the idea of choosing Bossa Nova might at first atrike you as odd. I knew my only hope was to approach it with a purity of heart? an "innocence". I also kew I'd need a partner ; and not only a singer, but someone who could write beautiful yet twisted lyrics in Portuguese and was familiar with what I'd been doing as an artist-and, of course, in possession of an innocent heart! Arto Lindsay was the only choice. My friend Arto has a wonderful ability to to understand things intuitively and without the need for a huge exchange of words. When I discoverd Arto was coming to Japan with Vinicius Cantuaria (God, isn't he innocent?) I knew Iwas absolutely on the right path. Arto and Vinicius joined me in Tokyo just after performing at a music festival in Kawaguchiko. When we got together and played, it was as if we were messengers on a mission who were possessed by a Muse. I'd play a vocal line to Vinicius' guitar while Arto was putting a chunk of this as a way to start an album, just three people suddenly thrown together with the challenge to create - NOW ! - but it worked. And in the end, it was a very fresh, very innocent and blissful experience. More musicians were brought in later to round out the songs and when we were finished, I was cetain I'd accomplished what I'd set out to create : an interpretation? a reflection, really? of Bossa Nova that was somehow specifically mine. Thanks everybody ! I've taken great care in finishing "Innocent Bossa in the mirror" in hopes of making this moment eternal.

Fascinated Sessions[va]--Fascinated Sessions [2008] nmr

Here's a very nice one from a few of the best "nu-jazz" artists in Japan. Thanks to "joaquino" for the original files.

Definitely a fascinated session -- one that features work from some of the hippest talents on the Japanese club jazz scene -- including members of Sleep Walker, Native, Quasimode, The Fascinations, and Jabberloop! The style here is more straightly jazzy than some of the other efforts by these players, but there's still a great groove on most numbers -- rhythms from hardbop, soul jazz, and Latin sources -- played with a tightness and soulfulness that's really wonderful. Instrumentation includes tenor, alto, trumpet, vibes, piano, and plenty of percussion -- and most numbers have warmly rolling acoustic basslines that really buoy up the tunes nicely -- partly in a modal way with lots of 60s touches! Titles include "Jazz For Two", "Marika", "Pop & Circumstance", "Mr Walker", "Proof Of The Pudding", "Saturday In The Park", "Firecracker", and a great take on Dudley Moore's "Amalgam"!

Stormu Yamashta-GO-Live in Paris [1976~77]

A classic with great guests.

he primary difference when comparing this live performance and the rendering simply titled Go (1976) is that Go Live From Paris (1978) presents the proceedings (as they exist) in a properly linear fashion, as correlated to the Eastern mythology that informed the extended two-part suite. This is in direct contrast to Go, which assembled the contents out of sequence. The stage show was recorded at the Palais Des Sports in Paris, France on June 12, 1976 and the recital setting allows for considerably longer and more exploratory interaction amongst Stomu Yamashta (percussion/piano), Steve Winwood (vocals/keyboards) and Michael Shrieve (drums). They are joined by legendary jazz axeman Al DiMeola (guitar) as well as Tangerine Dream and Ash Ra Tempel veteran Klaus Schulze (synthesizer) -- all of whom had contributed to Go. Filling out the band are Jerome Rimson (bass), Pat Thrall (guitar), Brother James (congas) and Karen Friedman (vocals). In terms of sheer intensity, it is hard to beat DiMeola's searing leads and Winwood's blue-eyed soul on the driving "Ghost Machine," easily topping its former incarnation. "Surfspin" lands into the funky mid-tempo "Time Is Here" highlighted by Karen Friedman's expressive exchanges with Winwood, while Rimson punctuates the rhythm with some penetrating bass interjections. This is followed by the sole Winwood composition "Winner/Loser," which further exemplifies how the spontaneity of the concert yields results that best their predecessors. In fact, on the whole the material on Go sounds like a blueprint for the exceptional and inspired outing found here. The second movement commences with fairly even renditions of the trifecta "Solitude," "Nature" and "Air Voice" -- which had previously been given the name "Air Over." "Crossing the Line" is an additional zenith, spotlighted by Winwood's emotive vocals and the untamed and otherwise incendiary frenzy of fretwork courtesy of DiMeola. Clocking in just shy of a quarter-hour, "Man of Leo" provides another opportunity for the players to loosen up and fuse their collective improvisations behind DiMeola's intense soloing and the similarly seminal instrumental offerings from Shrieve, Rimson -- who is at his most melodic -- and Freidman's haunting warbles.
If you have never heard Stormu, this is a good starter.

Tatsuhiko Asano-Genny Haniver [2002]

This is probably the most beautiful music I've ever heard in my life. Asano somehow creates music unlike anything made my man before or since. Incredibly complex production, but simple and elegant at the same time. It really has a life all it's own. No one uses sounds like this either, so soft, and with intense individuality.
his CD took 5 years to make, but it sounds like it could've taken 1000.

Thanks to "lodey" again for this nice release, appreciated.

Tatsuhiko Asano- In The Wake Of Doshin [2000]

Here is another nice one from "lodey" appreciated.

This is the beautiful soundtrack to the Nintendo 64/Gamecube videogame Doshin The Giant, that only got released in Japan and Europe (highly reccomended, if you can find it!).

If you like acousic guitars, mixed in with Electronica and world music, this is for you. It is so soothing, and gentle, and feels like it comes from another universe, pretty much like the videogame itself.

Mr. Asano's mastery is hard to be beaten, and it's a shame, not many people outside in Europe and Japan have heard this!

rega--Million [2009]

“rega” is a Japanese progressive jam band which consists of 4 members: guitarist Ryuji Ide, bassist Akinobu Aoki, drummer Takafumi Miyake and guitarist Akira Yotumoto. They were born and raised in Ehime, a south-western part of Japan, and they carry on their activities now in Tokyo.

Their music is created out of their each music background such as post rock, progressive, organic groove, jazz, techno, breakbeats, electronica and so on, and their soulful music surpasses music genre. Tough their songs are composed thoroughly, precisely and carefully, they cast human warmth with the pleasant melody.

Their live performance which expresses rush of their emotions is overwhelming. In November 2007, their first demo hit No.1 on a sales chart of indiemusic.com, a Japanese indie music portal site. They released the single exclusively in 19 stores of Tower Records on June 4, 2008 and the next month their 1st mini album “RONDORINA” was released from JVC Victor Entertainment, Inc.

They received the attention being selected as the new band of 2009 by HMV Japan. Their 1st full album “Million” released on April 8, 2009 reached No.1 on the daily rock album chart of iTunes Japan.

Anoice--Out Of Season [2008 ver.]

Here is the 2nd release.Anoice pronounced “a noyce”
One of Japan's premiere instrumental acts, Anoice, in 2006 with its debut release, Remmings. Two years later Out of Season is feeding our hunger for new Anoice material, but it comes with a bit of a surprise. What was previously a balanced mix of post-rock and neo-classical genres has veered into experimental territory. The new album sheds the conservative sounds of its predecessor and fully embraces the compositional oddities of its members, allowing them to be fully expressive and Out of Season greatly benefits as a result. While neo-classical music is currently getting a lot of attention this year, no one has produced a work as distinctive as Anoice, who continually prove to be on top of the genre.
