WAPPA GAPPA is a Japanese group. The line-up is: Keizo Endo (bass), Masahiro Lee (guitars), Hirishi Mineo (drums), Hideaki Nagaike (keyboards) and Tamami Yamamoto (vocals). Masahiro Lee is a new member that did not play in the first three albums. The group was founded based on the idea of bassist Keizo Endo in 1992. The music of this group is in symphonic vein and with a strong jazz tendency. Overall, the closest classification is probably fusion although there are sections in the music with no evidence of it. There are moments when the music is atmospheric and there are even some signs of popular music but the many influences work nicely together. The best way to describe the music is to imagine a mix of symphonic like PAGEANT and fusion like KENSO.
The first album "Yamatai", released in 1996, is hard to find. After this album the group signed to the French label Musea. The 2nd album "A Myth" came out in 1998. The music in this album is very good progressive with many influences. They are able to execute the different influences in a successful manner. The 3rd album "Gappa" was released in 2004 and it is similar to the predecessor. The voice of the female vocalist Tamami Yamamoto is wonderful.
WAPPA GAPPA is enjoyable Japanese progressive.

Peter Fernandes is a trumpet player and producer from Southeastern Massachusetts.
In high school, Peter played in bands both in and out out of school and found a passion for music that eventually led him to jazz, rock, Latin music, and everything in between. It was during this time that he also discovered composition and the joy of hearing an arrangement realized by live instruments. By the time he graduated high school, Peter was in the middle of recording and producing his first solo album. Since this time, he has recorded and been the sole producer of two more solo albums.
In his latest album, “The New Me,” Peter again presents a mix of genres rooted in jazz, this time with a cast of top musicians including Rick Britto, Ric Fierabracci, Trevor Kellum, Dave Weckl, and Johannes Zetterberg. The New Me also marks the first album Peter produced without a core band. Peter says about the arrangements, “About %75 of what you hear on the record is MIDI. I really learned a lot about what I can do with MIDI versus what a professional can do with a live instrument. When I track out drums or bass myself, I can get it to sound exactly how I want, but a real pro might take the part to a place I wouldn't have even thought of.”
Currently a student of Computer Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Peter continues to perform with ensembles and directs both an independent fusion group and jazz combo.

Trailblazing keyboardist/composer/producer Jeff Lorber revisits a sound he helped pioneer on his latest recording, Galaxy. Following up on his GRAMMY®-nominated 2010 release, Now Is The Time, Lorber again culls from his early catalog but gives a fresh approach to some of his most highly requested compositions, including "Wizard Island," "City," "The Samba" and "The Underground." "Essentially this album is a part two," Lorber says. "It features the same rhythm section, but it's even more into the jazz fusion direction. It's more energetic and the performances are tighter." Galaxy spotlights 11 originals - all instrumentals - that cover the scope of electrified jazz. The disc opens with "Live Wire" "At over seven minutes long, it's a real powerful, up-tempo song," says Lorber. "It's fun to play and hopefully just as fun to listen to. Yellowjackets' bassist Jimmy Haslip joins him in this 21st century version of the Jeff Lorber Fusion along with saxophonist Eric Marienthal, trumpeter Randy Brecker, percussionist Lenny Castro, guitarists Paul Jackson Jr. and Larry Koonse, and drummers Vinnie Colaiuta and Dave Weckl. Haslip also co-produced the album and co-wrote five tunes with Lorber."Live Wire," like most of Galaxy, is a showcase for the work of renowned drummer Vinnie Colaiuta. "We had three days with Vinnie to cut basic tracks," Lorber says. "Basically, he's the best drummer on the planet, so once he lays down his drum parts - which are like the foundation - you're ready to go. His work really inspired the rest of us."
That inspiration also lives on "Big Brother," a tune that recaptures the essence of contemporary jazz, while the soulful and funky "Montserrat" works a groove loosely based on the Police's 1980 hit "When the World Is Running Down, You Make the Best of What's Still Around." While Colaiuta handles most of the drumming on Galaxy, Lorber recruited Dave Weckl to perform on the title track. "Weckl has been on my last three records," Lorber says. "And I love the way he plays." Lorber's look back at jazz fusion is also a look at the present, and to the future, including vibrant reinterpretations of "City," from the Jeff Lorber Fusion's 1980 LP on Arista, Wizard Island (which introduced a young saxophonist named Kenny Gorelick, better known as Kenny G), and "The Underground" featuring trumpeter Randy Brecker, from Lorber's 1993 album on Verve Forecast, Worth Waiting For. The fresh sounds on Galaxy expand the possibilities of where technology is taking music - the old becoming new, the modern becoming post modern. "It's a step up from the last album," Lorber says. "It's more energetic, harder hitting and even more cohesive. This record really takes fusion to another level." [AMAZON]

The French band Sixun was founded in 1984.(Sixun comes from Six (Fr: six) and 'un' (one). This refers to the number of band members (six) from around the world that play together as a unit. The core of the band, Paco Sery (drums, percussion), Jean-Pierre Como (keyboards), Alain Debiossat (saxophone), Louis Winsberg (guitar) and Michel Alibo (Bass) remained unchanged over the years. The group began his recording career with Nuit Blanche in 1985, followed in 1987 by Pygmies and Explore in 1988. The polyrhythmic work of the band is very important and significant influences of the multicultural musical origins of the band members in particular, African and Caribbean can be found. The band is often compared to Weather Report, the major influence of Sixun. With about 20,000 CDs sold of each album, they are one of the more successful European fusion bands. Sixun disbanded in 1998 after the ninth album (Nouvelle Vague). Since 2005, the band is active again and celebrated in 2006 the twentieth birthday of the band with a concert in Paris, that was released as CD and DVD
