From Wikipedia:::The Black Mages was a Japanese instrumental rock band formed in 2002 by Nobuo Uematsu, Kenichiro Fukui and Tsuyoshi Sekito - three composers for Square Enix. The band arranged Uematsu's Final Fantasy video game series-based compositions in a rock style often similar to progressive metal, achieved with the additional use of synthesizers.[1] Since its inception, the band had expanded to six members with the addition of Keiji Kawamori, Michio Okamiya and Arata Hanyuda. On August 7, 2010, Nobuo Uematsu announced the band had disbanded, but he would continue to perform rock arrangements of his music as a part of another band, the Earthbound Papas.
The band has released three studio albums. Their first was released eponymously as The Black Mages in 2003, and contained arrangements of Final Fantasy battle themes. The second album, The Black Mages II: The Skies Above, was released in 2004 and featured additional pieces besides battle themes including the group's first original song, "Blue Blast ~Winning the Rainbow", which was created for Japanese K-1 fighter Takehiro Murahama. The third album, The Black Mages III: Darkness and Starlight, was released on March 19, 2008. Music from the group has also appeared in other albums, including one track in Dark Chronicle Premium Arrange, an album of arranged music from the video game Dark Chronicle, a piece in the animated film Final Fantasy VII Advent Children and its corresponding soundtrack album, and one track on Final Fantasy III Original Soundtrack, the soundtrack album for the Nintendo DS version of Final Fantasy III.
The Black Mages did not tour as a band, but performed several concerts to promote their album releases. For their first album they performed in Shibuya and Kanagawa, Japan in 2003 and later released a live video of the first concert on DVD exclusively to Uematsu fanclub members. They repeated this for the release of their second album, performing in Kawasaki and Osaka, Japan in 2005 and similarly released on DVD to fanclub members. The third album saw a performance in Yokohama, Japan in 2008; a DVD of the show was released commercially on March 25, 2009.

THE BLACK MAGES-THE BLACK MAGES-[2003] 1ST
The Black Mages is an arranged soundtrack album of video game music from the Final Fantasy series of role-playing video games. The album contains a selection of musical tracks from the games, arranged and performed in a hybrid of power metal and progressive metal by The Black Mages. All the selected tracks are "battle" music from the games. The pieces have been described as "hard-rock" with "blazing synthesizers and guitars".[8] It was first released on February 19, 2003, by DigiCube, and subsequently re-released on May 10, 2004, by Square Enix. It spans ten tracks and covers a duration of 51:29.
The album reached #43 on the Japan Oricon charts.[9] It was well-received by critics like Andy Byus of RPGFan, who termed it "addicting" and "powerful". He criticized the overuse of synthesizer as opposed to live instruments in some tracks, and that some of the arrangements stayed too close to the original tracks, especially "Dancing Mad". Tetra of Square Enix Music Online also enjoyed the album, saying "all of the members are strong musicians, and Sekito and Fukui were equally strong arrangers". His primary complaint with the album was he felt many of the songs followed the same general pattern in their arrangements.
1. "Battle Scene" (from Final Fantasy I - Battle) 4:19
2. "Clash on the Big Bridge" (from Final Fantasy V - Battle on the Big Bridge) 4:16

THE BLACK MAGES-THE BLACK MAGES II :THE SKIES ABOVE [2004]
The Black Mages II: The Skies Above is an arranged soundtrack album of video game music from the Final Fantasy series of role-playing video games. Like the previous album, it contains a selection of musical tracks from the games, arranged and performed in a hybrid of power metal and progressive metal by The Black Mages. Unlike their first album, The Skies Above includes other pieces besides battle themes; the album also features songs, which were performed by Kazco Hamano, credited as "KAZCO", and Tomoaki Watanabe, or "Mr. Goo". It also includes a non-Final Fantasy track, "Blue Blast — Winning the Rainbow", an original piece that was created for Japanese K-1 fighter Takehiro Murahama. The Skies Above, as opposed to the first album, features real drums rather than sequenced drums, as the band had expanded from its original three members, none of whom played drums. The line "Maybe I'm a Lion" in the track of the same name was spoken by Alexander O. Smith, a translator for Square Enix and close friend of Okamiya, one of the new members. It was released on December 22, 2004, by Universal Music Group. The album spans eleven tracks, and covers a duration of 50:56.
1. "The Rocking Grounds" (from Final Fantasy III - Battle 2) 3:56

THE BLACK MAGES-THE BLACK MAGES III:DARKNESS & STARLIGHT [2008]
The Black Mages III: Darkness and Starlight is the third arranged soundtrack album of video game music from the Final Fantasy series of role-playing video games. The album contains a selection of musical tracks from the games, arranged and performed in a hybrid of power metal and progressive metal by The Black Mages in a similar manner to their previous albums. It was released on March 19, 2008, by Uematsu's Dog Ear Records, spanning ten tracks and a duration of 60:40. The Black Mages sing the chorus for the song "Darkness and Starlight", the only vocal track on the album. The album has been described as being composed of a mix of "intense" symphonic metal pieces and rock opera. Like the previous album, Darkness and Starlight features an original piece, "Life ~ in memory of KEITEN ~", which was composed by Uematsu for Yoshitaka Tagawa, a boy he had met who died of leukemia.
The album was well-received by websites like RPGFan, which said the album was "very much worth the over three year wait" and described the tracks as "enjoyable" and "inspiring". He had few complaints with the album, only describing "Opening ~ Bombing Mission" and "Assault of the Silver Dragons" as "bland", but still worth listening to. Square Enix Music Online was even more positive in its review of the album, calling it "a masterpiece" and "The Black Mages' finest effort to date", wishing only the album had been longer.
The album received mixed reviews from critics; Jesse Jones of RPGFan said that he was "simply amazed" by the album, though it was not without flaws. While terming the music overall as "excellent", he disliked the vocal arrangements in "Otherworld" and "The Skies Above", finding that the voices of the singers did not match with the songs' instrumentals. Zane of Square Enix Music Online was less approving of the album, calling it "passable" and saying that the new arrangements gave "mixed results". He blamed the "intolerable vocals" and occasional poor choices in instruments as the problems with the album, concluding that the second Black Mages album was inferior to the first.
1. "Opening ~ Bombing Mission" (from Final Fantasy VII – "Opening ~ Bombing Mission") 4:39
2. "Neo EXDEATH" (from Final Fantasy V – "The Final Battle") 4:39
3. "The Extreme" (from Final Fantasy VIII – "The Extreme") 5:51
4. "Assault of the Silver Dragons" (from Final Fantasy IX – "Assault of the Silver Dragons") 5:01
5. "KURAYAMINOKUMO" (from Final Fantasy III – "This is The Last Battle") 4:56

8. "Grand Cross" (from Final Fantasy IX – "The Final Battle") 5:34
9. "Darkness and Starlight" (from Final Fantasy VI – "Overture", "Aria di Mezzo Carattere", "Wedding Waltz~Duel") 15:32
10. "Life ~ in memory of KEITEN ~" (original track) 1:38

007 Digital Moon
1979 CBS sony 2003 reissue Sony MHCL 297
K.I. Capsule is Katsunori Ishida. He is the arranger while Matsutake programs sounds and sequences. This is a fun album of 10 covers of James Bond themes and songs through Moonraker (skipping Thunderball for what it's worth). I think there is always a leagal tiptoe around unsanctioned Bond albums. The "007" if it was part of the tiltle is now off the title leaving just "Digital Moon". There was never a problem with covering the themes, I think legal issues come in when it's being sold as James Bond merchandise.
The tracks are in a fun moog meets disco sound. There is some solo violin by Hiroki Tamaki and real? drums though some drums are programmed too. A few hints of Moroder though overall the feel is more like a synth cover album. Much more technically advanced sounding and well mastered than The Fanatsia (1978).

QUI A cool Canterbury taste jazz rock with flute In 1994, three high school boys who were keen on listening to KING CRIMSON, SOFT MACHINE, MILES DAVIS, JOHN COLTRANE, ete. got together forming Qui after their graduation in Tokyo.
At the time, the members were Takashi Hayashi (Guitar) who wrote most of the songs, and two persons.
The band were playing jazz-rock taste sound at live clubs regularly till 2003.
Demo-recordings around the early days titled "Prelude" were released from Vital Records, a division of POSEIDON Records.
In "Prelude" three members played live at the studio, after that adding Hayashi's synthesizer sound.
Then Hayashi is being a professional musician but others were not able to continue playing for personal reasons.
In 2004, Hayashi reformed Qui with Seto (bass) and Yoshikawa (drums) who are professional jazz musicians and rehearsed during the year then played live again.
In 2006, Yoshida (flute) and Itani (percussion) joined the band.
Unique Qui Sound is a mixture of Hayashi's progressive/Canterbury taste guitar playing and other members' jazz/latin elements. Official debut CD "Qui" released from POSEIDON/MUSEA in 2008.
Qui is the only progressive band who can play live from Tokyo to east area of Japan regularly.
In fact, they play twice a month in Tokyo. Qui's performance are always fascinate us with their cool technical instrumental playing and aggressive improvisation.

Round House has been steadily gaining momentum now with their 4th release, this most recent on the Poseidon Lable, one of the new labels that is offering fans of progressive music an opportunity to hear some of Japans' more obscure talents in the genre. With this cd - 3D, Round House continues to follow the style from their previous efforts, which is all - instrumental progressive rock, with fusion tendancies, much in the style of fellow Japanese bands Kenso and Ain Soph. The keyboards and guitars shape the music, which has a deft feel, almost softness to the sound, those that know Kenso might understand my sentiments for this description.
The musicianship is very good, and the sounds that the guitars and keyboards integrate are soothing and dreamlike, full of melody, ear friendly sounds that are both relaxing and introspective. My only problem here with the bands' recent effort are the fact that there is no drummer. The drums were programmed, and while they are done in a respectable manner, the feel of real drums is truely absent from what could have been the bands crowning moment. The music is very good, tasteful and well conceived, yet hearing the plasticity of those programmed drums takes a bit away from the otherwise fully emotive content from the rest of the musicians, this music certainly would have had more personality had a respectable drummer performed those fills and rhythms.
I would not dismiss this cd simply for that reason, as there is a huge upside to what Round House is doing here, as much as those drums bother me, I find that the music is often enough to overcome them, showing me that they are a very capable and talented band.

First album by this instrumental technopop unit with connections to Shi-Shonen and others. The a-side of this disc is thoroughly technopop, while the b-side gets orchestral... and a bit schmaltzy. Real maniacs like me will perversely enjoy the b-side, but I think the a-side is pretty stellar, including one mega-jam in the form of By Me. One of the best technopop songs ever, if you ask me!
I have another by them also posted.

BETTER GET USED TO THE PRESENT—BECAUSE
THERE’S NO END OF NOW!
TAMPA BASED JAZZ/ROCK POWER TRIO TRANSCENDS GENRES,
EXPLORING LIMITLESS SONIC POSSIBILITIES
ON THEIR EXPLOSIVE NEW FULL LENGTH RECORDING
‘SOME MUSIC WE MADE’
We may not always be able to live a life without limits—but an explosive new Tampa based jazz/rock power trio is showing us the endless possibilities of how to embrace today, this very moment, like there’s No End of Now.
That provocative moniker perfectly reflects the free flowing, wild musical, groove and sonically expansive conversations that drive Rex Shepherd (guitars), John Tschirhart (bass) and Jason Stander (drums). Together, they create a hard to peg, alternately infectious and trippy, hypnotic vibe that expands and revolutionizes the many genres they draw from—starting with jazz, rock, funk, blues and world music. It’s an ever-evolving aesthetic they share on their new full length recording Some Music We Made, recorded live in two days at Clear Track Studios in Clearwater, Florida.
With this “live in the present” philosophy, where every musical notion is an open door to a new way to think about rock and jazz, the three principals of No End of Now are open to letting their growing legion of fans define the live and recorded experience.
Some dub No End of Now as “hippie Jazz,” others as “psychedelic fusion.” Shepherd’s favorite comparison came from a guy in a bar where they were playing one night: “Robin Trower meets Miles Davis,” a spot on observation considering that Shepherd’s guitar influences range from Trower and Hendrix on the classic rock side to jazz greats Jim Hall and Bill Frisell.
Still others get drawn in beyond the point of no return and are left almost speechless, save for “What the hell was that? That was cool.” With titles like “Meditation on the Occasional Uselessness of a Guitar Pick,” “Lunch With The Departed” and “Soy Mash,” that’s pretty much the norm.
Before moving to Central Florida about a decade ago, Shepherd was a long established musician on the jazz circuit in Cleveland, primarily playing the Telecaster and doing straight ahead jazz. Over the years, he began finding new ways to meld jazz with his foundational love of rock and also began incorporating more exotic sounds from his growing interest in Indian music. He started gigging heavily around Tampa, where he met and ultimately joined creative forces with Tschirhart, a Detroit native (and fellow enthusiast of both jazz and rock) whose upright bass was in high demand on the local scene. The duo’s chemistry went over well at numerous local venues, from clubs to coffee shops, hookah bars and a hip pizza joint in New Port Richey, where they scored the longest running jazz gig (a year and a half) that the restaurant had ever had.
After a long deserved creative break, Shepherd was inspired to start making music again after the unexpected passings of his grandmother and mother within a six month time span. He began writing some of what he calls “the best music of my life” and called up Tschirhart to see about hooking up again. After six months of searching for the perfect drummer/percussionist, they met Stander, one of the hottest drummers on the Southeast Jam scene thanks to his recording and touring with Worldwide Zoo and Green Sunshine--who blew them away at his audition.
While their ultimate goal is to get on the jam band and festival circuits, No End Of Now has done gigs thus far at several Tampa Bay area clubs including The Roosevelt 2.0, Skipper’s Smokehouse and Mr. Dunderbaks.
“The most exciting thing about having this incredible lineup is our ability to play not only the handful of songs I had previously written out, but also to naturally improvise on the other tracks that didn’t have an initial roadmap,” says Shepherd. “Working with John and Jason gives me a chance to express the edgier side of me that I never got to show when I was playing straight ahead jazz. Our chemistry lies in the listening each of us does, the ability to have the others hear what one of us is doing and then respond to it and take off in unexpected directions.”

please respond in comments about this band, it will surve as feedback
It’s the first fusion jazz album entirely made in Taiwan. From the first note on the paper, to the recording studio, to the factory, and be in your hand. The key person, or the keyboard person behind this is Fred Lui.
Fred is the most active keyboard player, songwriter, and the arranger in Taiwan music theme. His works can be heard among Taiwanese pop music scene, as well as the Taiwanese movie soundtracks. Fred is also well known as music director of several biggest pop stars.
Fred always has been attracted by Japanese fusion jazz music since childhood, like T-Square. And Fred’s always dreamed to popularizing fusion jazz music to the Taiwanese audience. To achieve this dream, Fred started by having his own label “Timeless Fusion Wave Music Co., Ltd.”, and formed his own jazz ensemble “Timeless Fusion Party”.

Lu7 is instrumental music unit by umegaki Luna ( Kb) and Kurihara Muan ( Gt). I think I want to produce sounds with rich imagination, can feel the various landscapes and colors. If you can not only, and be able to feel even the temperature and scent, very happy. World when I heard the sound of the Lu7 image may be a possibly non-existent world. Free fantasy in the world enjoy the Lu7 music.
The core of Japanese band Lu7 is the duo of guitarist Tsutomo Kurihara and keyboardist Luna Umegaki, with assistance from numerous guests on drums, percussion, bass, violin, bagpipes and vocals. After a brief intro of flowing dreamy keyboards and bagpipe melody, the band launches into "Canary Creeper", a light progressive rock and jazz fusion tune that characterizes the style of music heard across the albums' ten tracks. Lu7 excel at melodic construction and mixing elements of progressive rock and fusion into a kind of "prog-light", and in many cases "soft jazz", blend that is enjoyable and sounds great due to the outstanding production. However, the music doesn't do much to challenge the listener, offering little in the way of compositional development, the result being that much of the music sounds very much the same. Kurihara has a distinct Holdsworth guitar sound, and while he only rarely lets loose, it's clear that he has the ability to do so. He lets rip with short fiery phrases every once in a while, but that's about it. There were a couple standout tracks that caught my attention. "Secret Recipe", though one of the shortest tracks of the set, is also one of the most interesting and thematically varied. This one really perked me up. Ditto for "Danse Rituelle Du Feu", one of the more energetic tracks on the album. Overall this was a bit too fluffy for my tastes. But there are enough hints throughout the album to conclude that these folks could do something a lot more exciting if they wanted to.

Deja vu long-awaited 3rd series! Keiji Matsumoto, a novel arrangement pianist Western classics of the 1980s golden age!
Us masterpieces of yesteryear fade completely even after more than 20 years of its release, mainly instrumental piano cover Matsumoto consuming more polished. 。 Extensive use of native instruments such as mandolin and strong colors reminiscent of a tropical ukulele, defying an unprecedented approach. Music fans were attracted to Western as well as the 1980s, a whole generation, "pleasant to hear every" um work.
