[ LOSSLESS & 320] Cinema--Into A State of Flux & Mindscape
Here are the 2nd & 3rd releases from this forgotten symp. prog band. The 1st The Seven Stories is a little harder to get.
CINEMA can be classified as either an offshoot or a reformation of the long-running Japanese symphonic project FROMAGE, who disbanded in1991 after more than a dozen years and numerous lineups. Guitarist Tohru Ohta, drummer Yuichi Taniguchi and keyboardist Yoshihiro Kitamura, who were all part of the final FROMAGE lineup came together to form CINEMA in 1994 (only Taniguchi was an original member of FROMAGE).
While CINEMA retain a symphonic string presence in the band, their orchestral arrangements are more sparse than their predecessor, and much of the non-traditional sound comes from synthesized keyboards which are played by no less than three of the band's members. Their delicate arrangements can be compared to other chamber-leaning symphonic groups such as VERDUN or VIRGINIA ASTLEY, although the occasional guitar riff is closer to the melding of symphonic and neo-prog found in bands like KAYO DOT, including the use of native Asian percussion.
Like their forbearers FROMAGE, CINEMA tour mostly in Asia and release material sporadically, with only three studio albums to their credit in the past twelve years.
CINEMA deserve recognition in the Archives due to the symphonic nature of their music, complex arrangements and diverse instrumentation, and their pedigree as a second-generation progressive band.

[SPECIAL] SKYWALK-THE BOHEMIANS [1986]
Skywalk. Vancouver instrumental ensemble in the fusion-jazz style. It was formed in 1979 by the keyboard (synthesizer) player and composer Graeme Coleman and the bassist Rene Worst, with Tom Keenlyside (tenor and soprano saxophones, flute), Ihor Kukurudza (guitar), Jim McGillveray (percussion), and Lou Hoover (drums). Kukurudzka was replaced by Harris Van Berkel, and Hoover by Kat Hendrikse, in 1980. Skywalk made its first LP, Live in Detroit (RCI 520), with Kukurudza and Hoover, at the 1980 Montreux/Detroit International Jazz Festival.
It subsequently recorded three albums released internationally by the (US) Zebra label: Silent Witness (1983, Skywalk Records 001/ZEB-5680), The Bohemians (1986, ZEB-5715), and Paradiso (1987, ZEB-42204). Cumulative sales to 1991 exceeded 100,000. The albums have had greater success in the USA than in Canada, as has the band itself: it made a major US tour in 1986, and returned intermittently thereafter. Canadian appearances outside the Vancouver area have been restricted largely to festivals - eg, the 1985 FIJM with its Quebec counterpart, UZEB, and the Calgary International Jazz Festival. Locally, Skywalk gave many school concerts in its first years and has performed frequently at the Landmark Jazz Bar (effectively its Vancouver base 1981-90), regularly at the du Maurier Ltd International Jazz Festival, and on occasion in other clubs and halls. All of its members are active in other jazz, pop, and studio groups.
Most of Skywalk's repertoire has been written by Coleman, who left the band in 1989 to write film scores. His place was taken by Miles Black. Among the band's most popular tunes are First Snow, King of Kansas, and The Country Mouse (Goes to the City) (Coleman), Nepenthe (Coleman/Van Berkel), Larry and Apparitions (Van Berkel), and The Torchbearers (Keenlyside). Skywalk's dynamic 'fusion' of jazz and rock leans more heavily to the latter than the former, in terms of its predominant rhythms, the strong production qualities of its recordings, and the favor it gives to texture and mood over improvisational freedom.

[SPECIAL~L.T.] SCOPE--SCOPE [1974
The progressive rock group Scope was founded in Zwolle, The Netherlands in 1971. The band was founded by Henk Zomer (drums) and Rik Elings (keyboards, flute) who knew each other from high school where they played together in a band called Strange Power. Under this name they recorded two singles in 1971, That's the way/Turn me loose and Tenderfoot/Spring. With the addition of Rens Nieuwland (guitar) and Erik Raayman (bass guitar) they became Scope. In the coming years they play a lot throughout The Netherlands and Germany. In 1974 they recorded their debut in Germany for Negram label.
In 1975 Rob Franken (keyboards) joins the band, Raayman leaves the band and joins Medusa, and Elings switches to bass guitar. With this line up they record their second album, also in Germany.
In 1976 drummer Zomer leaves the band and is replaced by Robert Vink for a short time. The next drummer is Roland Zeldenrust. In the same year they see a new bass player, Pablo Nahar. All these changes lead to end of the band in 1976.
Their music is mainly set upon 70's jazz-rock / fusion standards, with reminiscences of Mahavishnu Orchestra, but it also drinks from the fountain of their contemporary Dutch Symphonic Prog peers, like Solution and Focus. In 1982, the group was revived by Rik, Henk, Theo de Jong (b, ex-Taurus) and a succession of guitar players.
Formed in Zwolle in 1971,SCOPE were a four-member Jazz-Prog outfit, who was born out of the ashes of the band ''Strange power''.Founding members were drummer Henk Zomer and keyboardist/flutist Rik Elings.Reportedly the band started as a Symphonic rRck group, but soon they switched to a more jazzy progressive style.SCOPE played a lot of gigs in their country and Germany and finally they recorded their self-titled debut for ther Negram Lanel on German ground.

[ RE PLAY] THE SAX PACK--THE PACK IS BACK [2009]
The smooth jazz group known as the Sax Pack, founded by Jeff Kashiwa and featuring Kim Waters and Steve Cole, debuted with a tour in 2004. In March 2008, the group released its debut, self-titled CD. It definitely made a mark, as the song “Fallin’ For You” was a smooth jazz hit that year and went all the way to No. 1.
Now, the boys are back on their saxophones. On September 29 they will release their sophomore CD, The Pack Is Back. The 10-song CD features the first single, “Can’t Help Myself,” as well as such original tunes as “Wanna Get Closer” and “This Time Around.” There’s also as a bonus track, a remixed version of “Fallin’ For You” by Davy D.
Kashiwa says he styled the Sax Pack after the camaraderie and fun he saw with the original Rat Pack from the movies and from concerts - Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. “The whole thing started kind of as a chuckle, kind of emulating the Rat Pack. And the reason why everyone loved the Rat Pack so much - I mean, they’re all great singers and all great actors and entertainers and dancers - is because of their camaraderie. We re-created that with the Sax Pack.”

[LOSSLESS] CHICK COREA ELEKTRIC BAND II--PAINT THE WORLD [1993]
Chick Corea's Elektric Band II found bassist John Patitucci, drummer Dave Weckl and guitarist Frank Gambale going out on their own and being replaced by Jimmy Earl, Gary Novak and Mike Miller. Saxophonist Eric Marienthal was the only sideman from the first Elektric Band to stick with Corea. Although the new members are not as distinctive as their predecessors, the high-quality material played on this release (which includes Jimmy Heath's "CTA," "Blue Miles" and a variety of Corea originals) is very jazz-oriented and occasionally there are straightahead sections. This set is recommended even to listeners who have not yet acquired a taste for fusion.
1. Paint The World 3:58
2. Blue Miles 5:32
3. Tone Poem 6:51
4. CTA 5:49

[ RE PLAY] Yosuke Yamashita,Bill Laswell,Ryuichi Sakomoto-Asian Games [1994]
Thanks to mona for the original files..
I will also post track 1 below, good stuff..
The usually technophobic Yamashita teams up with tech-heads Bill Laswell and Ryuichi Sakamoto and comes up with a descent record. The setup sounds awkward: Yamashita didn't really trust working "with machines," but Sakamoto designed a studio system of synthesizers and samplers to put the more analog jazzman at ease. Recorded in 1988, a few of the tracks bear strong similarities to Sakamoto's Neo Geo of that same year, particularly "Melting Pot" and "Ninja Drive." The former includes samples of the same Lebanese singer -- Dunya Yusin -- and song used on Brian Eno and David Byrne's My Life in the Bush of Ghosts and New Order's "Angel Dust." It's a good track, with Laswell's bass keeping things simultaneously funky and intellectual. But many of these pieces here sound like a piano improviser lost in the middle of a sampledelic soundscape, with neither musician connecting (the question to ask is whether these tracks would not work without the piano -- the answer unfortunately says much about the album).
1. Melting Pot-7:13
2. Chasin' The Air-4:42
3. Asian Games-6:50
4. Ninja drive-7:46
5. Napping On The Bamboo-5:45

[LOSSLESS] WYSIWYG--S/T
Original files from 'fj&se'
WYSIWYG is a collaboration between PRISM's keyboardist Ken'ichiro Shinzawa, bassist Jiro Okada and FRAGILE's reigning king of Japanese fusion, guitarist Koichi Yabori. Unlike a lot of Japanese so-called fusion bands, no "candy-coated instrumental pop-funk" here. This is fusion the way it was meant to be. Stellar musicianship, compositions, taste, finesse, not to mention burning solos form all the players. Crank these up loud!!!

[ RE PLAY~ SPECIAL] ERA--ERA [2004]
!st thank you to 'BLUE CAT & BUGEL' for supplying new links to this hard to find very nice release. uly appreciated. Don't forget to say at least thanks..
What we have here are 7 songs of 100% acoustic passion recorded live in 2000, 2001, and 2002. I’ve got to tell you, fans of any type of violin playing will be wetting their pants over this CD. Understand that this CD is just two players, violin and acoustic guitar. Each at times tasks the “lead” if you will all the while producing a seamless soundscape of soft melodic music.
This CD at times has a strong Pacific Rim feel to it, then it morphs into a more traditional acoustic guitar sound.
There are no lyrics in this CD, so all you have is the absolutely brilliant playing of both these Top Shelf artists. At times I’m reminded of Sky’s first release, but without any electronics or drums. A very clear classical music sound coupled with intricate compositions where the violin and guitar play off each like to dolphins dancing in the ocean.
This is dramatic music. Music that demands to be listened to. Seriously. Listened to. This is not background music; it is music with clarity and strength rarely found in such an “unplugged” format.
The migration from song to song also speaks highly of these artists, and the live audience as well. The songs flow directly into each other and the audience is quiet and serene the entire time.
I cannot get away from the fact that each song is filled to the brim with passion. Not just in the actual playing, but also in the way the songs were written and designed to bring out the best in both the acoustic guitar and violin.
